NANAIMO — The Clippers have added a local flavour to their coaching staff for the upcoming season.

New assistant coach Evan Richardson was born and raised in Nanaimo and has experience in the BCHL, NCAA and professional hockey.

Richardson, who spend the last three season as the assistant director of hockey at the North Shore Winter Club, said he is excited to share his experience to help the current Clipper players get to the next level.

“I’m looking forward to getting going with a team I grew up watching,” said Richardson. “It’s an honour to now be a part of that organization. I can’t wait to get started.”

Richardson played in the BCHL from 2010-2013 spending a year with the Victoria Grizzlies and two seasons with the Powell River Kings.

Overall he had 146 points in 149 career Junior A games.

Clippers head coach and general manager Colin Birkas believes Richardson will be a good fit to complement the existing staff with himself and Gaelan Patterson.

“Adding a Nanaimo local who shares our organizational commitment to player development will only enhance the experience for our entire roster. We are bringing in a young, hungry coach who as a player has experienced what all of our players strive for. Evan is a professional who shares our goals and vision for the Clippers program.”

Some of Richardson’s other playing career highlights include twice being named to Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge, winning gold in 2011 and silver in 2012.

He was also Powell River’s leading scorer in 2012-13.

Richardson played four years at Boston College and the University of Connecticut, before a three-year pro career in the United States and Europe.

The Clippers also announced athletic therapist Kelly Parker and equipment manager Gary Dorland will be returning to the organization this season.
