Active for Life Expo connecting Nanaimo families to fun activities

NANAIMO — A free-to-attend community event is looking to connect local sports and recreation organizations with interested participants.

PacificSport Vancouver Island is hosting their 5th Active for Life Expo at Maffeo Sutton Park on Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spokesperson Israel Lobo said over a dozen organizations are committed to attending, providing insight on their programs, along with lots of free activities for the whole family.

“We’ll have different booths going on, as well as a bouncy castle. We’ll be joined by the Canucks Autism Network, Tourism Nanaimo, Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club, the Nanaimo Art Gallery and many others, we have 15 booths confirmed.”

Lobo said a major reason for the event is to offer and get people to register for summer camp activities across the region.

He added some people may not be fully aware of what is on offer for children of all ages.

“It’s just to showcase organizations. Some people might not know or be familiar, even with us as Pacific Sport Vancouver Island, what we do. This is a great opportunity for us and the other organizations to get to know our patrons as well as for them to get to know us and the services we provide.”

In years past, between 300 and 400 people have attended the annual event.

Those checking out the booths are also given a passport to help collect stickers to win various prizes.

PacificSport is a not-for-profit group which provides support to over 100 athletes and coaches, improving local programming and sports organizations across the Island.

More information on the organization is available on their website.
