Man jailed for violent Nanaimo home invasion, firearms offence

NANAIMO — A three year jail sentence has been levied against a man for a pair of incidents, including a south end home invasion.

Kyle Robert Alex, 37, was sentenced on Wednesday, March 6 in provincial court in Nanaimo after he pleaded guilty to four charges.

Court heard a July 2019 incident involved Alex breaking in to a home, where he assaulted a man and threatened him with a knife.

In separate 2021 incidents, Alex was convicted of counseling an indictable offence which was not committed and a firearms charge.

On top of his federal prison sentence, Alex was handed a life time firearms ban and ordered to supply a DNA sample.

Since the jail tenure is more than two years, Alex is exempt from post-release probation conditions.

The sentence was rendered by provincial court judge Brian Harvey.
