Police seek potential witness of pedestrian hit by car in south Nanaimo

NANAIMO — Local Mounties are hoping to identify the driver of a white pick-up truck in hopes of advancing an investigation involving a pedestrian hit on Nicol St.

Surveillance video footage of the truck is from the area of Nicol and Milton streets on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at about 11 p.m.

“Investigators are prioritizing efforts to locate the driver or owner of the white pick-up truck seen in the supplied image. Investigators hope to speak with the driver of the vehicle as they may have observed the collision and could help further advance the investigation,” Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Mike Thompson told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Nanaimo RCMP stated a woman in her 50’s wearing dark, non-reflective clothing was trying to cross four lanes of traffic on Nicol St. just south of Milton St. when she was hit by a southbound car at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Police stated the driver of the car stopped and cooperated with police.

Impairment was ruled out as contributing factors, according to police.

The woman was transported to Nanaimo hospital, then flown to hospital in Victoria with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened in front of MGM Restaurant.

Police described the investigation as “active and ongoing.”
