Woman hit by car in Nanaimo has life-threatening injuries

NANAIMO — A pedestrian hit by a car on a south Nanaimo street was flown to hospital in Victoria for more advanced medical treatment.

A Nanaimo RCMP news release stated the woman in her 50’s was trying to cross four lanes of traffic on Nicol St. just south of Milton St. when she was hit by southbound car on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at about 11:15 p.m.

“Investigators noted that it was raining at the time and the victim was wearing dark non-reflective clothing.” the news release stated.

She was originally rushed to Nanaimo hospital, then flown to hospital in Victoria with what police called life-threatening injuries.

There is not a designated crosswalk in front of MGM Restaurant where there incident occurred.

A man in his 40’s driving a Toyota Prius remained at the scene. Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as contributing factors, according to police.

Police closed the road section of Nicol St. for several hours while investigators collected evidence.

The vehicle involved was seized for investigative purposes and later released.
