QUALICUM BEACH — A 75-year-old local resident remains hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a truck.

Oceanside RCMP said the senior pedestrian was crossing in the controlled intersection of Memorial Ave. and Fern Rd. West on Monday, Feb. 12 at 3:50 p.m., when they were struck by a Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Sgt. Shane Worth said speed and impairment have already been ruled out as contributing factors.

“At the time of the collision, the driver immediately stopped, called 911, and provided first aid to the pedestrian. The pedestrian was subsequently transported by helicopter to hospital, and is currently in critical condition.”

Worth said the roads were dry and the skies were clear when the incident occurred.

An continuing investigation will look to determine how the accident occurred.

“We’re thankful the driver stopped and talked to us and is cooperating, that way we get a full picture of what was going on, so it was quite helpful for them to stop, call us, and give first aid right on scene.”

Worth said they’ve canvassed the area for video footage, but are asking anyone with information into this incident to call the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111, quoting file 2024-1322.
