Family asks City for memorial

The family of slain 6-year old Dontay Lucas were at the Port Alberni City Council meeting last night, asking the city name a park or playground after the child.

Dontay died in March 2018 after suffering days of abuse from his mother and stepfather, who are now in jail and awaiting sentencing for murder.

Dontay’s father Patrick Lucas said his son would have turned 12 last month

“He was a very energetic boy. He was always smiling, he was always full of energy. There was no stopping him. There was no keeping him still,” he said. “I’ll just really hold that in our hearts, all those loving memories that we all have, because that’s all we have.”

Councillor Charles Mealey suggested the city look at renaming Riverbend Park in memory of Dontay.
