Katzberg wins hammer throw, Canada claims six gymnastics medals at Commonwealth Games
GLASGOW — Hammer throw champion Ethan Katzberg added another major title to his collection while Canadian gymnasts racked up six medals on a banner day at the Commonwealth Games on Monday.
Katzberg, a two-time world champion and Paris 2024 Olympics gold medallist, won the men’s hammer throw title with a Games-record 80.97 metres on his first attempt at Scotstoun Stadium.
The 24-year-old from Nanaimo, B.C., moved one step up the podium after claiming Commonwealth silver in 2022. Rowan Hamilton of Chilliwack, B.C., won bronze with 75.36, finishing behind Iosif Kesidis of Cyprus (76.97)
Earlier on Monday, Lia-Monica Fontaine, Jordan Carroll and Félix Dolci captured gold medals in gymnastics.
