Clippers offense shines in 6-3 win over Kings

POWELL RIVER — Six different goal scorers paced the Clippers to a 6-3 win over the Kings.

After going down 1-0 on a breakaway by Adam Mendelson Nanaimo reeled off five straight goals to take command of the game.

Cole Semeniuk and Joel Plante scored 33 seconds apart in the first period, while Cole Lonsdale, Mike Murtagh on the power play and Connor Haynes added tallies in the middle frame.

A Joonas Linnavuori breakaway from out of the penalty box narrowed the gap to 5-2 at the 40 minute break.

The Kings pressed Nanaimo in the final period and brought the score to 5-3 on an Owen Thomas blast on a delayed penalty call.

Then Willyam Gendron’s first of the season on a Clipper power play ultimately put the game away.

Tyler Hodges was solid in net getting the victory over Will Baker,

The Kings did outshoot the Clippers 33-25.

Nanaimo was 2/8 on the man advantage and 4/4 killing penalties.

Gendron and Murtagh were the first and second stars of the game with a goal and two assists each and Hodges was selected third star.

The Clippers upped their season record to 4-2-1 while raising the record versus the Kings to 2-0.

Nanaimo will be back in Powell River again on Oct.14 for a 7 p.m. game.
