Nanaimo woman wins $500k ‘Daily Grand’ payday

NANAIMO — It was a moment of shock and disbelief followed by euphoria for a local woman who struck it rich.

Barbara Wunderlick won a $500,000 prize on a Daily Grand draw in late June, with a ticket purchased from Quality Foods on Turner Rd.

She scanned her ticket during a shopping trip to Real Canadian Superstore shortly after the June 26 draw.

““I scoffed and said, ‘is this for real?’ It was a shock to see the machine [stall] and have people celebrate around you!”

Wunderlick wanted to immediately tell her partner about the news and has plans to enjoy some of the finer things in life including lobster and steak dinners.

She also wants to purchase a vehicle and take a nice family holiday.

“It’s amazing and I am still in shock. It will help make life easier.”

The B.C. Lottery Corporation notes Daily Grand is played twice weekly and has paid out $13 million in prize money through 2023 to date.

In addition to lump-sum prizes such as Wunderlick’s, the game also offers $1,000 a day for life as a top prize.

Wunderlick joins a long list of roughly 25 winners to claim $500,000 or more from tickets purchased in Nanaimo since 2012.
