Man arrested, home raided following violent stabbing at Nanaimo apartment

NANAIMO — A man has been charged following a home invasion at an Albert St. apartment early Saturday morning during a home invasion.

Nanaimo RCMP reported Jordan Reginald White, 26, of Nanaimo was charged with aggravated assault, break and enter and disguise with intent after two suspects wearing masks broke into the apartment on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:40 a.m.

On Monday, Dec. 12 at 10:15 a.m., a search warrant was conducted at a home on Murray St. in Nanaimo’s Harewood neighbourhood.

Police stated the raid was necessary to preserve evidence believed to be related to the Saturday morning stabbing.

White was arrested several hours after the incident after police were keeping watch of a local home. He remains in custody and has a limited criminal history, with one charge of uttering threats in 2020.

A suspect was tracked down in a stolen vehicle the evening following the stabbing, Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said.

He said the Murray St. home has been the source of concern for area residents.

“It has been on our radar for well over a year for general disorder, allegations of prostitution, drug activity, criminal activity — it’s causing havoc in the community, people are just trying to live their lives.”

He said eleven adults in the Murray St. home were temporarily detained and released.

New information will be compiled on the Harewood neighbourhood address which could lead it to being declared a nuisance property by the City of Nanaimo, O’Brien said.

Regarding the Saturday morning stabbing at 619 Albert St., O’Brien said there is a connection between the victim and those accused, but said police aren’t prepared to elaborate any further.

“They beat him up and they stabbed him multiple times. He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. It’s remarkable that he wasn’t injured more significantly,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Police are actively searching for the second suspect in the stabbing.

“We don’t have a lot of information on that person, but we believe the investigation will come together in the next little while and we’ll be able to identify that person.”

Anybody with information on the Albert Street stabbing as asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345, and quote file # 2022-43120.
