Clippers use strong power play to get by Express 5-3

NANAIMO — The Clippers man advantage staked the offense in a 5-3 win over the Coquitlam Express.

Nanaimo’s first three goals by Brody Waters, Michael Craig and Jeremie Payant were all on power plays and put the team up 3-0 by the six minute mark of the second period.

Coquitlam used their man advantage to narrow the game to 3-2 with goals by Ray Hamlin and Tyler Kopff.

Willyam Gendron’s even strength tally put Nanaimo into a 4-2 lead before the second intermission and stood up to be the game winner.

Former Clipper Mateo Dixon and Clippers leading scorer Kai Daniells traded third period markers as Nanaimo won their sixth game in in a row.

Coquitlam outshot Nanaimo 36-31 and the power plays were both red hot with Clippers going 3/4 and the Express finishing 2/3.

The Dec. 11 three stars were:

1) Jeremie Payant 2) Brody Waters 3) Michael Craig

The win moves Nanaimo’s record to 22-4 and gives them a 2-0 advantage in the season series with Coquitlam.

Nanaimo will end the pre-Christmas schedule with home games Dec. 16 versus Prince George and the Teddy Bear Toss game Dec. 17 against Cowichan Valley.
