NANAIMO — A computer case may not seem all that valuable, but to a Victoria woman it’s the first thing she thought about when her luggage was stolen.

Marian Paris, her grandchildren and other family members were foot passengers on the 3:45 p.m. ferry departing Horseshoe Bay on Saturday, Oct. 29.

All of their walk-on passenger luggage turned up for pick-up with the exception of a dark brown leather and suede duffel bag.

“It was just there on the carousel, it was put on with all of our other luggage. The CCTV (surveillance video) shows somebody grabbing their bag and mine at the same time,” Paris told NanaimoNewsNOW.

The unique bag contained more than $5,000 worth of valuables, including irreplaceable handmade gifts and a MacBook Pro laptop, Paris said.

But it was the loss of a cherry red Apple laptop case covered with stickers that stings the most for Paris and her grandchildren.

“For the last seven years they have been adorning that case every chance I see them, which isn’t all that often. They know every sticker they’ve put on there and when they put it on, I so want that case back.”

Paris said the terminal video footage was reviewed by a Nanaimo RCMP officer that night and a police file was then opened.

The person who stole her bag was wearing a hoodie, but the footage didn’t yield a detailed suspect description, she said.

Paris wants her belongings turned in to the Nanaimo RCMP.

“Hopefully someone who knows them or they themselves may hear this and have a chance to make things right.”

Anybody with information on the theft are asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at: 250-754-2345 and quote file number 2022-38333.
