Clippers lose lead and fall 4-2 to Grizzlies

NANAIMO — The Clippers winning streak was stopped at six games thanks to a 4-2 loss to the Victoria Grizzlies.

Nanaimo had a strong first period outshooting their opposition 12-5 but neither Oliver Auyeung-Ashton or the Clippers Aidan Campbell surrendered a goal.

A critical no goal call wiped out a Michael Craig tally in the first minute of the second period.

An explanation of goalie interference temporarily kept Nanaimo off the score sheet.

The bulk of the scoring happened in a three minute span just a few minutes later.

Joel Plante and Mike Murtagh scored a minute apart to give Nanaimo the lead but immediately after that Grizzlies coach Rylan Ferster called a timeout and the tide of the game changed.

Thirty seconds later Ryan Watt put the Grizzlies on the board and a minute and a half after that Olivier Picard knotted it up at 2-2.

The Clippers didn’t score again the rest of the night but Picard added a game winner in the third period and an empty netter to complete his hat trick.

The final shots were 32-31 for Victoria with the Clippers going 0/4 on the power play and 3/3 killing penalties.

The Oct. 21 three stars were:

Nanaimo is now 1-1 against Victoria this season as the Clippers prepare to play their fourth game in five days in Cowichan against the Capitals on Oct. 22.
