NANAIMO — The Clipper’s only morning game of the BCHL season was a success with a 4-2 win over Cranbrook.

With the entire league in Chilliwack for the BCHL Showcase Nanaimo drew a 10 a.m. start against the Bucks.

Grade A chances were kept to a minimum with two clubs demonstrating why they are off to strong starts.

Michael Craig scored a power play goal in the first period to give Nanaimo a leg up in the game.

A Jack Silich deflection put Cranbrook on even terms in the second period but veterans Brody Waters and Jake Hewitt responded to give the Clippers a 3-1 advantage.

Before the end of the middle frame, Carsyn Good tipped in a hard pass to tighten the contest at the 40-minute break.

Nanaimo surrendered a late five-on-three power play for 1:01 but held firm to set up a Kai Daniells empty-net goal in the final minute.

Shane Shelest took the win over Nathan Airey with the shots finishing 37-34 for the Bucks.

Nanaimo has scored a power goal in six straight games, going 1/4 on the man advantage while finishing 2/2 on the penalty kill.

The victory boosts the Clipper’s record to 7-1 while Cranbrook falls to 6-3.

Nanaimo will wrap up the BCHL Showcase with a 4 p.m. start against the Trail Smoke Eaters on Wednesday, Oct. 19.
