NANAIMO — A local woman is facing a single charge of aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing a man in the head.

Kimberly Anne Lewis, 51, was formally charged following a Sunday, Aug. 14 incident where investigators believe she stabbed a 27-year-old man in the head multiple times near the downtown Nanaimo transit loop by Port Place Shopping Centre.

Lewis remains in custody ahead of a Tuesday, Aug. 23 court appearance.

“Investigators are now tasked with attempting to understand why this happened and if there was an conflict between the two that may have precipitated the incident,” Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said in a statement.

Police earlier said they believe there may have been a prior relationship between Lewis and the man involved in the altercation.

Following the incident, the man was taken to hospital with multiple apparent stab wounds. He remains at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in stable condition.

Lewis has an extensive criminal record in the province, with numerous convictions and jail tenures on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and east Kootenay region.

She has been jailed twice previously for robbery, including a 2004 offence in Nanaimo, court records showed.

Officers would still like to speak with anyone who has additional information about the incident. They’re asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, quoting file number 2022-28213.
