NANAIMO — A 27-year-old man remains in hospital in stable condition after being stabbed multiple times in downtown Nanaimo.

RCMP say the violent incident happened on Front St., near the transit exchange opposite Port Place Shopping Centre, on Sunday, Aug. 14 around 9:30 a.m. when an apparent argument between the man and a 51-year-old woman escalated.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the man had multiple apparent stab wounds to his head with attending officers providing emergency first aid until paramedics arrived.

“A short time later, a female suspect was located and arrested for aggravated assault. She remains in custody and no charges have been sworn to date.”

The arrest took place without incident, according to O’Brien. Police believe there is a prior connection between the two but aren’t saying what it is.

The name of the woman involved will not be released until charges have formally been approved by Crown Counsel.

Officers closed Front St. for a period of time Sunday morning while an investigation took place.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754 -2345.
