Scammers pose as victim’s son to scam Oceanside senior
QUALICUM BEACH — An Oceanside senior was recently scammed out of their hard-earned money by someone pretending to be their son.
In early June, Oceanside RCMP say the victim was at their home in Qualicum Beach when they got a call from someone pretending to be their son.
Sgt. Shane Worth said the scammers were able to convince the victim of their fraudulent identity and requested money for a new phone.
“The victim unfortunately believed this person calling was her son, and sent $2,700 to the fraudster. Following her sending the money by email to this fraudster, she was getting more messages from the fraudster asking for more money, and at that point, she was a little bit suspect of what was going on.”
