Bedridden senior dies in central Nanaimo house fire
NANAIMO β The resident of a Diver Lake area home died after being unable to escape a fire.
Emergency services including Nanaimo Fire Rescue, BC Emergency Health Services and Nanaimo RCMP attended to the 2500 block of Quill Dr. on Thursday, June 9 just after 8:30 a.m. after calls to 911 reported a house on fire.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief Stu Kenning said crews arrived to find light smoke coming out of the home.
βThe fire crews quickly knocked a door open, knocked down the fire. Unfortunately they found an elderly male inside who had succumbed to the smoke and fire. He was in a hospital bed.β
