PARKSVILLE — Southbound traffic between Parksville and Nanaimo was affected Wednesday afternoon following a collision between two vehicles.

A number of 911 calls were made around 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8 involving a vehicle rolled over into the ditch along Hwy. 19, near NW Bay Logging Rd.

Witnesses reported a two-vehicle incident involving a company truck and another car. The driver of the car was pinned inside with witnesses tending to them until first responders arrived.

Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department attended the scene along with Oceanside RCMP and paramedics, with a BC Emergency Health Services air ambulance landing shortly after 1 p.m. at a nearby field.

BC EHS confirmed one person was airlifted to hospital from the scene but did not comment on the severity of the injuries.

Sgt. Shane Worth from Oceanside RCMP told NanaimoNewsNOW that people involved received minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

Southbound traffic quickly backed up to the weigh station near Parksville, however northbound traffic was flowing relatively unimpeded.

Emergency crews cleared the scene around 2:30 p.m., but it still took some time for southbound traffic to return to its normal flow.
