NANAIMO — A 15-year-old boy died after being hit by a vehicle on the Nanaimo Parkway late Saturday night.

Emergency crews were called out just after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4 to the Parkway near the Aulds Rd. intersection after it was reported someone walking along the road was hit by a passing car in the southbound lanes.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the boy was pronounced deceased on scene.

“Members spoke to several witnesses indicating it appeared the youth was running in and out of traffic and then collided with one of the vehicles.”

O’Brien said the youth was wearing dark clothing at the time and it was also raining.

He said the motorist who hit the youth did not remain at the scene of the accident.

She approached Nanaimo RCMP the following morning where she was later released unconditionally and her SUV seized for a forensic examination, O’Brien said.

Investigators had the highway closed for several hours as they worked on scene, including visits from the BC Coroners Service and RCMP traffic reconstruction experts.

“We’re looking for anybody who has not spoken with investigators who has eye witness evidence or dash cam footage to please contact investigators,” O’Brien said.

Anybody with information on the incident is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP’s non emergency line at 250-754-2345.
