VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward prospect Linus Karlsson to an entry-level contract.

Karlsson, 22, played 52 games for Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League last season and tallied 46 points (26 goals, 20 assists), leading the team in goals.

He was named the league’s rookie of the year and skated in six playoff games, contributing one assist.

Karlsson previously played in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan league, putting up 109 points (39 goals, 70 assists) in 152 regular-season games and 18 points in 17 post-season games.

Hailing from Eksjo, Sweden, the six-foot-one, 178-pound forward was picked in the third round (87th overall) by San Jose at the 2018 NHL entry draft.

Vancouver acquired Karlsson from the Sharks for centre Jonathan Dahlen in February 2019.

“We are excited to officially welcome Linus to Vancouver,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement Thursday. “He is a good goal scorer who plays a solid two-way game, and he is coming off an impressive rookie season in Sweden. We look forward to seeing him develop his game in North America.”
