PARKSVILLE — Mounties are looking to the public to help identify a bank robber.

Oceanside RCMP say a man believed to be in his mid 20’s walked into the Parksville CIBC branch on Island Hwy. West around 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 19 on demanded cash.

Sgt. Shane Worth told NanaimoNewsNOW staff from the downtown Parksville bank provided quality surveillance images of the man to hopefully advance their investigation.

“So we can generate some tips on that. I’m sure somebody locally may be able to identify who this is.”

Numerous people in the branch at the time made statements as part of the police investigation.

Worth would not confirm whether the man left with any cash or other valuables from the bank.

The suspect was last seen running toward the Alberni Hwy. before turning into a laneway behind the branch.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, Worth said.

“No injuries to anybody, but understandably the staff is shaken up over the incident.”

The suspect is described as around 5’7″ tall with a slim build. He was wearing a dark baseball cap with an “ECHO” logo, while he was wearing large silver rings on his right, middle finger.

The man also has a small tattoo at the base of his lower right thumb.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oceanside RCMP at 250 248 6111 and reference file number 2022-4383.
