‘It’s all not guilty:’ man facing several trials throughout Van Isle

NANAIMO — Facing seven trials this year and more than 20 charges laid against him, Shaun Dean Thicke maintains he hasn’t done anything wrong.

The 44-year-old is charged with 22 separate offences, including property crimes, assault, assaulting police officers, publishing an intimate image without consent and numerous driving infractions for alleged incidents on mid and north Vancouver Island.

Most of the charges involve alleged offences occurring since 2020 in Nanaimo, Parksville, Courtenay, Port Hardy and most recently earlier this year in the Alberni Valley.

Thicke is charged with two sets of charges for alleged incidents early this year in Port Alberni, including two counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000 and possessing/using a stolen credit card.

He was on trial earlier this month for a pair of driving offences and resisting arrest on Nov. 20, 2020 in Nanaimo.

Thicke refuted testimony from a Nanaimo RCMP officer who said Thicke drove off after a local traffic stop.

Thicke told court he was not the driver in question because he was alone at a campground in Coombs at the time and the vehicle he’s accused of operating was not working at the time.

Thicke, represented by a lawyer on all of the charges he faces, did not produce evidence corroborating his claim.

An arrest warrant was out for his arrest when he was pulled over by the Nanaimo Mountie.

The officer testified Thicke identified himself after being pulled over and produced an interim driver’s license, which the officer stated appeared to be doctored.

Thicke was not pursued because the officer believed it would have been too dangerous.

A decision from Judge Karren Whonnock is anticipated on May 31 in provincial court in Nanaimo.

Multiple alleged female victims

Multiple charges against Thicke relate to alleged offences against vulnerable women he met online.

Those charges include an accusation Thicke shared an intimate image of a woman without her consent late in 2020, as well as uttering threats against the same victim.

NanaimoNewsNOW was informed a private Facebook support group was established to keep multiple women informed regarding Thicke’s ongoing court proceedings.

One alleged victim has been vocal on social media for several months warning people about Thicke.

He is contesting all of the charges applied against him.

When approached by NanaimoNewsNOW following his recent trial, Thicke emphasized he has or will plead not guilty to all of the charges he faces.

“It’s all not guilty,” Thicke said. “Aren’t there enough images of me on Facebook?” he added while having his picture taken outside the Nanaimo courthouse.

Thicke, who is not in custody, informed court he’s living with a friend in Nanaimo for the time being.
