Noel’s power play goal in OT leads Clippers to 5-4 win over Kings

NANAIMO — A back and forth game between the Clippers and Kings ended with an Andrew Noel power goal in overtime.

The Clippers scored first just over a minute into the game with the top line of Max Itagaki, Tristan Fraser and Sean Donaldson combining for Itagaki’s 17th goal of the season.

A few minutes later Donaldson was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for spearing when the Kings tied the game,

Powell River scored on the ensuing power play to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Alek Sukunda’s first goal as a Clipper tied the game in the second frame setting up a wild third.

Kai Daniells vaulted Nanaimo in front on a power play, but within two minutes the Kings Anthony Lucarelli tied the game.

Ethan Mistry gave the Clippers the lead back only to have Kaleb Nelson knot the score at 4-4 less than three minutes later.

A late delay of game call against Powell River goalie Zak Brice gave the Clippers a man advantage that carried over into overtime when Andrew Noel blasted home the game winner.

Nanaimo outshot the Kings 47-36 while going 2/5 on the power play and 5/6 on the penalty kill.

Jed Baliotti notched his fifth win of the season and made his fourth straight start in net.

The Clippers have a record of 22-11-1 as they head into their final game in the month Jan. 29 at home to Surrey.
