Clippers drop 7-3 game to Penticton

Nov 5, 2021 | 10:05 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers had a strong second period but were blanked in the first and third in a 7-3 loss to the Vees.

A goal by Brett Moravec was the only marker of the opening 20 minutes.

The teams traded seven goals in the middle frame with Max Itagaki, Charles Tardif (shorthanded) and Jake Hewitt scoring for the Clippers and Josh Nadeau, Anthony Allepot, Luke Vardy and Bradley Nadeau countering for Penticton.

The Bradley Nadeau goal with 1:16 left in the second period brought the score to 5-3 and Nanaimo couldn’t push any closer in the third.

The Vees added on two more in the final frame to drop Nanaimo’s record to 7-4 on the season.

There was a large disparity in shots and power plays.

The Clippers were outshot 51-19 with Kaeden Lane taking the victory over Cooper Black and Nanaimo had to kill off four power plays without getting a man advantage.

The loss was the Clippers first setback on home ice after starting the year 4-0 at Frank Crane Arena.

A season high crowd of 1473 came out to watch.

Next Nanaimo travels to Alberni Valley to face the Bulldogs on Nov. 6.

The Clippers won the first head to head meeting on Oct. 27.
