Weather systems to bring ‘river’ of rain to B.C.’s south coast: Environment Canada

VANCOUVER — Two successive frontal systems will bring an “atmospheric river” to British Columbia’s south coast until Saturday night. 

Environment Canada has issued rainfall, snowfall and special weather statements for several areas along B.C.’s coast and in the boundary region. 

It says 75 to 100 millimetres of rain is expected for Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound and inland and eastern Vancouver Island. 

The west coast of Vancouver Island should expect up to 150 millimetres of rain from the same systems.

The alerts say recent snow will melt off, rivers and streams will swell and localized flooding can be expected.

Environment Canada also warns a Pacific frontal system will bring snow in the Boundary, West Kootenay and Kootenay Lake regions, where as much as 15 centimetres is expected.
