Manslaughter charge laid after Nanaimo nightclub altercation

NANAIMO — A charge of manslaughter has been laid against a 33-year-old man after an assault at a local nightclub.

RCMP report the suspect and a 27-year-old man were involved in the incident at around 1 a.m. on July 17, outside the Sweet Spot Lounge on Skinner St. in downtown Nanaimo.

“The victim was transported for medical treatment with injuries considered to be life-threatening,” RCMP noted in a statement. “Despite extensive medical treatment, the victim died from the injuries he sustained.”

Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading an investigation into the incident, with charges recently forwarded to Crown Counsel for consideration.
