NANAIMO — The new face of the NDP in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding is set to be chosen.

A four-way race for the NDP nomination will be held virtually on Thursday, May 20.

The NDP party in the riding was last represented by Bob Chamberlin, who ran in both the 2019 federal byelection and later federal general election.

It was often considered an NDP stronghold, but Green Party MP Paul Manly claimed the riding in both 2019 elections.

Excerpts from each candidates NDP profile can be found below.

Lisa Marie Barron: Currently a SD68 trustee and navigator with NARSF, Barron has lived in the area since 1995. “As an elected representative, Lisa displays her commitment to understanding and acting on the issues important to Nanaimo-Ladysmith students and community.”

Gwen O’Mahony: A former BC MLA and Critic for Skills Training, O’Mahoney works for the federal government. “Gwen holds unswerving loyalty to the NDP and our commitment to social justice…(ensuring) you have a friend in troubled times and an advocate in a time of need.”

Dana Thorne: A board member of the Island Coastal Economical Trust, Thorne has held various management roles with Cowichan Tribes. “When working in community, she draws upon her culture, which values listening and learning.”

The nomination begins at 5:30 p.m.
