NANAIMO — The Clippers new captain is 20-year-old veteran Trevor LeDonne.

The Stoney Creek, Ontario product was acquired prior to the 2019-20 season and put up 20 points in 51 games in his first campaign in Nanaimo.

He takes over the role from the recently departed Kyler Kovich who left Nanaimo to play in the USHL in January and is excited to take on the responsibility of team captain.

“It’s an honour to wear the ‘C’ for this team. I like to lead by example but I can also use my voice in the room and on the ice.”

With plenty of new faces since the last time the Clippers last played in November all of the club’s veteran players will need to chip in to provide leadership.

“We’ve got a lot of guys who can do that,” LeDonne said. “There’s quite a few options here for guys who could wear a letter.”

In January LeDonne committed to St. Thomas University in Minnesota.

Securing his NCAA future allows him to know where his hockey path will lead over the next four years.

St. Thomas will enter Division 1 of the NCAA for the first time in the fall of 2021.

But being mentally and physically ready for a BCHL season is the priority right now.

“With the guys we have in the room and how dedicated they all are I think we’ll be more than fine once the season starts. Now we’re just waiting to get the green light to start.”

The Clippers and the rest of the BCHL are hopeful a 20-25 game season can begin sometime in March.
