Violent offender wanted by Nanaimo RCMP after attempted home break-in

NANAIMO — Local mounties are looking to track down a man accused of trying to smash his way into a south Nanaimo home.

Police said 31-year-old Brian Sutherland is wanted for uttering threats and mischief following an incident on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Sutherland is accused of breaking the front door and smashing the window of a home. The owner was home at the time and said Sutherland became violent when she refused to let him in.

According to the woman, Sutherland kicked the front door and threw a ceramic tile through a side window.

Sutherland fled the scene before police arrived and a Police Service Dog was unable to track a scent from the home.

He is described at 5’7″, 180 pounds with a tattoo of a ‘death cross’ on his right arm. The supplied picture by Nanaimo RCMP is recent.

Police said Sutherland is of no fixed address and is considered violent.
