Island Health wraps week with 250th COVID-19 case

NANAIMO — Island Health has recorded its 250th case.

Data from the health authority on Friday, Oct. 23 confirmed one new positive test was discovered in the region, the 10th announced this week.

Only 15 cases are active within Island Health. Seven are in the central Island region with five to the south and three to the north.

Data from the BC CDC, updated for Thursday, showed no hospitalizations within Island Health.

It remains the least impact of B.C.’s five health authorities.

Throughout B.C., 223 new cases were confirmed by the province.

The number of active cases across B.C. slightly crested the 2,000 mark. More than 4,600 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Currently 75 people are in hospital, with 24 in intensive care.

There’s been 12,554 total cases since the beginning of the pandemic in the province.

No new deaths were recorded on Friday. The number of fatalities remains at 256.

Four new outbreaks were reported, two at health care facilities and another two at manufacturing and processing facilities.
