NANAIMO — The Clippers have added an impact defenceman to their roster who is also a Montreal Canadiens draft pick.

Gianni Fairbrother joins Nanaimo after spending the last three seasons with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.

The 20-year-old may finish out his junior career in Nanaimo or return to the Silvertips if the WHL does return to league play.

In 2019 Fairbrother was taken 77th overall in the third round of the NHL draft by the Montreal Canadiens.

The offensive blueliner had 66 points in 137 career WHL games.

Fairbrother hasn’t played since January due to a shoulder injury which has now fully healed.

“I’m back to 100 per cent and I’m really happy with how I’m feeling and how surgery and my rehab went. I’m really excited to see how I can do with the Clippers.”

The newest Clipper is set to make his debut either Oct. 23 versus Cowichan or Oct. 24 in Alberni Valley.
