NANAIMO — The family of Nanaimo teen Makayla Chang faced her accused murderer in court for the first time.

Steven Michael Bacon appeared by video at provincial court in Nanaimo on Friday, Sept. 18, his first appearance since being charged with first degree murder in Chang’s death.

He’s currently being held in Thunder Bay, Ontario for unrelated crimes.

“It kinda made my skin crawl just to see him,” Chang’s father Kerry said outside court. “We’re just happy to see it finally coming along. Three-and-a-half years is a long time to be waiting.”
