NANAIMO — The most recent daily COVID-19 briefing was one of the most somber in recent memory.

She was visibly distraught when breaking the news, which is one of the highest fatality announcements in weeks.

All five of those who died were in long term care.

An additional death from June was discovered after the fact to have been caused by COVID-19 and was announced with the recent five during the press conference.

The total number of active cases is 166.
