Repeat offender charged for alleged Nanaimo crime spree

NANAIMO — A prolific offender remains in custody following several alleged property crimes and weapons offences in Nanaimo.

Spencer Lee Schaeffer was arrested and charged with nine counts for the alleged offences on Friday, April 17.

The charges involve break and enter, possessing a break-in instrument, several firearms violations and a probation breach.

He’s scheduled to make another court appearance on Tuesday, April 28.

Details of the alleged incidents have not yet been revealed by Nanaimo RCMP.

Schaeffer has a lengthy criminal record on the mid island dating back nearly two decades.

He has been in and out of jail since 2003 for a range of offences, including assault, drug trafficking, weapons offences and driving infractions.

Schaeffer is the younger brother Joshua Tyler Schaeffer, who allegedly rammed a truck into the exterior of Country Club Centre during a high-profile January 6, 2020 rampage captured on video.
