NANAIMO – The Clippers were backed by a sold out crowd and a group of nearly 90 alumni in their 4-3 win over Alberni Valley.

Josh Bourne had the game winner with 11 seconds left in the third period, his second last minute game winner in a row.

Other Nanaimo goals went to LIam Ryan on the power play, Mackenzie Merriman and Josh Kagan.

Clippers forward Scott Mahovlich was banished from the game in the first period after getting a major for a blow to the head, and another major for fighting.

The end result was a ten minute power play.

During that ten minute stretch there was an Alberni minor penalty that yielded two minutes of four on four, and a Clipper penalty that led to a five on three.

The Bulldogs Austin Spiridakis had a goal on that two man advantage to make the score 1-0 Alberni Valley after 20 minutes.

After Nanaimo scored three straight times in the second, Dawson Tritt notched Bulldog tallies late in the period and early in the third to set up Bourne’s heroics with 11 seconds remaining.

Both teams went 1/5 on the man advantage, with the Clippers outshooting the Bulldogs 38-31.

Jordan Naylor earned his 23rd victory of the season in net.

The Clippers pulled within five points of the first place Cowichan Valley Capitals with the win, and now lead the season series with the Bulldogs with a 4-1-0-1 record.

Nanaimo is off until Feb. 7 when they visit the Vernon Vipers.
