Clippers score late power play goal to tie Wenatchee 3-3

CHILLIWACK – A late power play goal earned the Clippers a 3-3 tie with the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday afternoon. 

The point gained saw Nanaimo leave the BCHL Showcase with a share of first place in the Island Division standings.

Things started out slowly for both teams with no scoring in the first period and the shot tally sitting at 7-3 for Wenatchee.

The Wild broke through on a second period power play when a shot from the left side by Noah Kim beat Austin Roden.

Nanaimo countered with two goals in 18 seconds, first Parker Colley finished off a beautiful passing play and then Vincent Millette shovelled the puck in off of a turnover.

At the end of the second period the Wild did the same thing to the Clippers when they scored twice in a 21 second span.

Slava Demin scored on the man advantage and then right after Sam Morton converted a passing play off of a Nanaimo giveaway.

The third period was scoreless until the final minute when the Clippers had a power play and pulled Roden to go 6-4.

Jake Harris netted his fourth goal of the season, all of them on power plays, to even the game up heading to the extra session.

Both Roden and Wenatchee goalie Jacob Acton were perfect through ten minutes of OT, which also included a Wild power play.

Power plays were a huge story in the game with Wenatchee finishing 2/9 and the Clippers ending off 1/4.

Austin Roden had a great game for Nanaimo as his team was outshot 40-23.

The Clippers are next back in action on Friday night when they visit the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at 7 p.m. 

Their next home action is Saturday September 30 against the Vernon Vipers.
