UPDATE: Family says missing Bowser man found responsive

PARKSVILLE — John Baartman’s granddaughter confirms via Facebook that he has been found and is responsive.

Sarah Campbell posts that her grandfather did not return after going out to get firewood in the Horne Lake area around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Multiple emergency responders and search and rescue teams spent much of Tuesday scowering the woods north of Horne Lake. Baartman’s truck was reportedly found around 4 p.m. Reports indicate he was found around 8 p.m.

The search is on for a missing Bowser man who may have ventured off in the Horne Lake area, according to police.

Oceanside RCMP say Jan (John) Baartman, 87, was reported missing by his family after failing to return home after a walk in the woods on Monday (Jan. 23).

Mounties note that police and several search and rescue agencies are looking for Baartman.

Police say Baartman, who goes by the first name John, is white, 5’7″, 210 lbs, with grey hair and blue eyes.

Baartman was driving his red 2013 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, license plate 6646 GJ.
