Monet added to immersive Beyond Van Gogh experience opening in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — An immersive artistic experience in the Harbour City is ready to open its doors to the public, with a second world-renowned artist added to the show.

Beyond Van Gogh and Beyond Monet is taking place at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre (VICC) starting Saturday, July 18, and running until Aug. 29, featuring a 10,000-square-foot immersive art installation engaging patrons in the work of the two visual craftsmen.

The show is the result of partnerships forged between Nanaimo Museum, VICC, Port Theatre, and Tourism Nanaimo, with Beyond Monet being included as those partnerships evolved, according to a news release.

The release said Beyond Monet will use images from Claude Monet, a French painter known for his impressionist work, including Water Lilies and Impression, Sunrise, recreating the images on a large scale using projection, sound, colour, and movement.

And if you want to Van Gogh and see both artists, it won’t cost any extra Monet.

Tickets purchased for Beyond Van Gogh have been automatically upgraded to include Beyond Monet.

Each presentation runs for approximately 25 minutes on a rotating loop, with a short transition between shows, with varying run times.

Tickets are available online.

The exhibit is a first-of-its-kind offering for Nanaimo in terms of size and scale, necessitating the multi-partner effort and $100,000 supplied by the City of Nanaimo to help stage the event.
