VANCOUVER, B.C. — Gary Muchula plans to be at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles next February for Super Bowl 56.

That’s one of the plans the football fan from West Vancouver is making after winning $10.2 million in the Oct. 20 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Muchula purchased his ticket from London Drugs in his home community, and found out he had won while checking his ticket at a gas station.

“I didn’t have my glasses and I thought, ‘that can’t be right,’” Muchula explained. “I checked it three or four times and went up to the girl at the counter and said ‘I’m not sure, but I think I won the lottery!’”

The first person to find out about Muchula’s good luck was his partner.

“She was walking the dog and I asked her to sit down. I told her, ‘I just won the lottery!’”

Aside from attending the Super Bowl, Muchula also plans to use some of his prize for a Christmas vacation in Barbados.

Muchula is the second British Columbian to win a Lotto 6/49 jackpot this month. On Oct. 6, Juanita Parnell of Prince Rupert won $5.8 million. Also this month, Christine Lauzon of Burnaby collected a $70 million cheque after winning the Lotto Max jackpot from the Sept. 28, 2021 draw.
