UPDATE: BC Coroners confirm cyclist passed away after early morning Parkway crash

NANAIMO — The BC Coroners Service confirmed the cyclist who was involved in an early morning crash on the Nanaimo Parkway back on Sept. 15 has died.

He passed away on Sept. 28.

The Coroners Service is still investigating his death.

 

EARLIER: A cyclist was airlifted to hospital early Friday morning after being hit by a cube van on the Nanaimo Parkway. 

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien confirmed the crash happened just before 6 a.m. near the East Wellington overpass on the southbound side of the highway.

An officer at the scene told NanaimoNewsNOW the adult cyclist was airlifted to a Victoria hospital in serious condition and he wasn’t wearing reflective gear or helmet.

The Nanaimo Parkway was closed southbound between the Northfield and Jingle Pot intersections for several hours as the crash was investigated.
