Ultra marathoner passes through Nanaimo as he nears end of 27,000 km run

Oct 28, 2016 | 1:12 PM

NANAIMO – Edward Dostler has run across the country and back for charity.

Dostler, who also goes by the name Fast Eddy, ends his 608-day journey in Victoria on Saturday afternoon. He has been raising money and awareness for alzheimers and breast cancer, both of which have impacted someone in his life. Through his athletic efforts he’s also hoping to inspire people to want to achieve more.

“To really make that awareness for other people to see it there and say ‘the guy ran 607 days and on the 607th to 608th days he did it in 24-hours and he went out to try and hopefully inspire somebody else to go after what it is they need to,’” said Dostler.

Accompanied by a support vehicle emblazoned with Fast Eddy on the side, Dostler will be running south down the highway over the Malahat and through the night to Victoria.

He says there are a lot of people along the way that have followed his adventure on social media and are looking forward to meeting him as he winds his way south.

“Rather than looking ahead at a finish we have the anticipation and luxury of looking forward to meeting those people along the way as we embark on this last little bit.”

Dostler began the run in March 2015 and estimates he has covered over 27,000 kilometres.
