UPDATE: pedestrian hit on Hammond Bay taken to Victoria with life-threatening injuries

NANAIMO — UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP say the person who was hit was taken to Victoria hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The road closure on Hammond Bay is over. Police did not release any further information Wednesday evening, only saying the investigation continues.

 

EARLIER:

Police say a pedestrian is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in north Nanaimo.

Nanaimo RCMP said a person was hit around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday on Hammond Bay in the area of Brigantine Dr.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said the person hit was in critical condition when taken to Nanaimo Hospital.

Hammond Bay Rd. is closed between Brickyard Rd. and Rutherford Rd. until further notice. There’s no estimated time for the road to re-open.

No further information is being released.
