Man charged with robbing three Nanaimo banks in 2018

NANAIMO — A man accused of robbing three Nanaimo banks this year, including two last week alone, is back in custody facing new charges.

Court documents showed Daniel William Harlow, 46, was charged in connection with robberies at the TD Canada Trust on Dufferin Cres. on Thursday, Nov. 1 and the north Nanaimo CIBC location on Monday, Oct. 29.

Harlow, who was arrested after the Thursday evening robbery when a taxi he was in was pulled over in downtown Nanaimo, was also charged with uttering threats and breaching a pair of court-ordered conditions.

Court records showed Harlow was arrested three days prior to the CIBC robbery for allegedly obstructing a peace officer and breaching conditions. He was also arrested on Oct. 11, according to court records.

He was released from custody after both arrests.

Harlow is awaiting trial on charges related to a robbery earlier this year at the TD location at Terminal Park Shopping Centre. A preliminary inquiry for Harlow in relation to the mid-February robbery is slated to begin in the new year.

Harlow remains in custody and has a court appearance scheduled in Nanaimo on Nov. 27 to answer to his latest charges.

His previous convictions involve two jail terms of six and 11 months in 2016 and 2017 respectively for possession of stolen property in Nanaimo.
