Parksville prepares for Canada’s 150th birthday

PARKSVILLE — Canada’s 150th birthday isn’t until next year, but Parksville residents have already started decorating for the party.

The city is one of 150 across the country chosen to be part of the Canada 150 Mosaic Project.

Tiles will be painted by local residents and the artwork will be assembled into a giant mosaic to be displayed at City Hall.

Debbie Tardiff , Manager of Communications for Parksville says the design options are wide open.

“It’s what we want to tell people what Parksville is all about. And I can’t say anything more than that because it won’t be until it’s unveiled that people get a sense of the overall design. When you come down and paint your tile you get to do absolutely anything you want,” said Tardiff.

It’s also going to end up being a great legacy project.

“We think it’s really significant. 150 communities were chosen across Canada to participate. So, we’re really happy to be able to do this and be able to provide this legacy for our residents for years to come. ”

Decorating will be done at the Community Park from 10-5 Saturday.
