Regional District elections are heating up at Sproat Lake, with five candidates vying to replace longtime Director Penny Cote who officially retires this week after more than 20 years of service.
Doug Fleming. Rob Frolic, Doug Herd, Colin McLeman and Sabrina Zimmerman are vying for the ACRD seat.
At an all-candidates meeting held last week at the Sproat Lake Hall, McLeman said if elected he would donate his pay to local charities.
“I’m going to do this for free and I will donate my money to the local charities and societies out here,” he said. “Such as the hall, the school especially that’s a pretty cool thing, Marine Patrol didn’t get their funding this year, they were funded with reserves this year hopefully they get it next year, but I’d like to be able to help with that, the fire hall and the parks.”
In Bamfield, Stefan Ochman and Max Salamon are looking to replace two-term director Bob Beckett.
Alan Anderson is challenging incumbent Susan Roth in Beaver Creek and Michael Lesosky faces incumbent Mike Sparrow in Cherry Creek.
Fred Boyko has been re-elected as the Beaufort area director by acclaimation.
