New school year – New challenges

One month into the new school year has revealed challenges at the Alberni – Pacific Rim School District office and within schools.

While a summer of turnovers at the board office has new people in senior roles, budget cuts implemented last year means fewer educational assistants and classroom supports in local schools.

Alberni – Pacific Rim School District #70  Superintendent Jaslene Atwal says increasing provincial education funding is a perpetual priority.

“It is never enough funding in our system and that is something that we’re always advocating for,” she said. “Funding is not enough for supports in our classrooms and we’re always looking for that.”
