He said fire crews stabilized the vehicle and worked alongside the BC Ambulance Service to assess the scene until the vehicle could be safely removed.

Cruickshank said luckily there were no significant injuries from the incident.

“From looking at the picture, looks like it could have been a lot worse. But yeah, definitely very fortunate everybody in the building at the time, all the employees and anybody. It’s a fairly busy street with a lot of pedestrians, so luckily no one was injured that way.”

Sgt. Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP said their investigation confirmed the vehicle was slowly reversing out of a parking stall on Craig St. when it accelerated before reversing into the bank’s wall.

“It is believed the driver of the vehicle depressed the accelerator when they intended to apply the brakes. One person in the bank was hit by some debris; however no serious injuries were sustained. The vehicle driver was issued a violation ticket for Drive Without Consideration ($196.00 fine), and the vehicle was towed from the scene.”
