Vancouver Island Seals provide elite development pathway for female hockey players
NANAIMO — The Vancouver Island Seals hockey program has been going since 2017 and it’s the only female AAA hockey team on the island.
General manager Cynthia Fowler said the team had been based out of the south island to start but now calls Port Alberni home.
“Last year we moved the team to Port Alberni because of ice availability and to give the girls more of a home base. Our games will be played out of Port Alberni this year. We have 12 home weekends with two games each weekend and then the rest of the time we are traveling.”
It’s a heavy commitment with games and tournaments.
